Moon Through the Clouds

Inspired by the bold, blade-like design language of the original Panerai case, this commission was created to complement—rather than overpower—the watch's distinctive character. The bracelet is structured around the interwoven pattern of the tsuka-ito, the traditional cord wrapping found on Japanese sword handles. This foundation is combined with Japanese family crest motifs (kamon) and flowing classical scrollwork, creating a seamless dialogue between Eastern symbolism and traditional ornamental engraving. The case and clasp are centered around the theme of "Clouds and Moon," portraying a luminous moon partially veiled by drifting clouds. A selectively gold-inlaid moon emerges from the darkened background, while the contrast between deep shading and bright hand-cut surfaces enhances the engraving's depth and atmosphere. The result is a composition that balances strength with serenity, expressing the quiet elegance of traditional Japanese aesthetics while remaining faithful to the original spirit of the watch.
